Ethical Diamonds

We don’t just require that our ethical diamonds are Kimberley-certified. To guarantee that they are conflict-free diamonds and produced in an ethical way, we insist on using gems that we can trace back to their mine of origin. We source Canadian diamonds, that are mined under strict regulations imposed by the government of the Northwest Territories, and cut and polished according to guidelines established by the Council for Responsible Jewellery Practices. They are fully traceable, and the larger stones are laser-inscribed.
Having this traceability is the only way to guarantee that a diamond did not originate from a conflict zone. During the 1990s and the first decade of this century, hundreds of thousands of people were killed in wars fuelled by diamonds, across Angola, the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), Liberia and Sierra Leone. Even today, blood diamonds from the Cote d’Ivoire, eastern DRC, and Zimbabwe continue to enter the market. Please visit our conflict-free diamonds page to learn more.
Many diamonds, even conflict-free diamonds, are cut and polished in sweatshop conditions, often by children, for wages that are inadequate for even the most basic standard of living. At Ingle & Rhode, we don’t just guarantee that our diamonds are conflict-free - we also ensure that they have been cut and polished by adults working with fair pay and conditions, and that they have been produced with due care to minimise any impact on the environment.
