Princess Cut Diamond Engagement Rings

Princess cut diamond rings are the second most popular type of engagement ring, after the round brilliant cut.
Square in shape, princess cut diamonds combine the triangular facets of brilliant cut diamonds with the step-cuts of the emerald and asscher cuts. Indeed, they are sometimes referred to as square modified brilliants, and unlike the emerald and asscher cuts, princess cut diamonds have right angled corners.
The shape of the princess cut diamond means that typically 80% of the rough diamond can be retained, compared with just 50% for the round brilliant, and as a result, princess cut diamonds are usually less expensive than round brilliants of the same size and quality. However, a princess cut diamond will tend to show colour more strongly in its corners, therefore placing more of a premium on higher colour grades.
There is no industry consensus on the ideal proportions for a princess cut diamond, and so diamond grading reports often do not specify a cut grade for these stones. As with all diamonds, we strongly recommend that you view them in person so that you can make your own assessment.
