Ruby Engagement Rings

Ruby is the third most popular type of gemstone chosen for engagement rings, after diamond and sapphire, and is currently enjoying a resurgence in popularity.
A member of the corundum family of gemstones, all rubies have red as their primary hue, but can vary in colour from pale pink through to dark reddish purple. The colour of rubies works very well with both white and yellow metals.
Rubies are particularly well suited for use in engagement rings as they are extremely hard.On the Mohs scale of mineral hardness, ruby scores 9.0, which puts it behind only diamond and moissanite amongst all natural gemstones.
Natural rubies tend to have colour impurities and tiny imperfections, which gemologists can use to tell them apart from ruby simulants. Before they are cut and polished, rough rubies are often heated treated to improve their colour.
Please note that Ingle & Rhode sources only traceable ethically produced rubies.
