Wedding Stories | Harriet & Carl

Queen's House Greenwich, blush toned bouquets, one striking off-shoulder dress, and Harriet & Carl. Here's how a pandemic postponed wedding became everything they dreamt of.

It began with a match on Bumble, a Hackney hang first date, ‘and we were inseparable ever since’. The couple booked a getaway at the idyllic Lime Wood hotel, deep in the New Forest, where Carl decorated their luxe room with photos of the pair, and along with an equally luxe, bespoke trilogy ring, popped the question.

The Location - Queen's House Greenwich

With an original wedding date for 2020, Harriet and Carl were finally able to celebrate their nuptials in Autumn 2021, complete with the most picturesque venue: Queen’s House in Greenwich. What was it that made Harriet and Carl want to hold their wedding at Queen’s House, Greenwich? ‘It was the first and only venue we looked at and we just fell in love. The venue was perfect, but also the planning staff were incredible, so we felt in good hands. We wanted somewhere in London to make planning easier, and make it accessible so we could have everyone we wanted there.

The Dress - Riki Dalal

‘Wanted off the shoulder, but originally thought I wanted something simple until I tried that on and got ’the feeling’. It made my mum emotional too so that was a bonus!’ The dress in question was from Riki Dalal, featuring an intricately floral detail corset with a floor length skirt and dreamy, tumbling train.

Meanwhile, Carl wore a tux from Suit Supply, and the bridesmaids were fitted out in a number of styles, with the older bridesmaids in navy Monsoon gowns and ivory for the younger bridesmaids, including their 8 week old niece in a petite ivory dress - ‘like a little fairy’!

The Flowers - Peppermint Poppy

Kenza Weddington at Peppermint Poppy was responsible for the floral arrangements, ‘I cannot sing her praises enough. She was amazing, even hanging around until the end to make bouquets out of all the flowers for people to take home’. Harriet explains she turned to Pinterest for flower inspiration - soft, velvety, blush tones, in a traditional mix of roses and greenery. Lufstul, whimsical and so romantic.

The Rings - Queensmith

Long before their engagement, Harriet happened to show Carl a photo of a ring she liked: three round diamonds, each set with six claws in a blush tone of rose gold. Carl kept note - ‘when he proposed I was so shocked, it’s beyond stunning and I still look at it 2 years on with heart eyes!’

When it came to the wedding rings, it was important to Harriet that she picked a matching rose gold band, this time set with diamonds around the band. Complete with scallop set melee diamonds, Harriet’s rose gold wedding ring was just what she hoped - and while Carl didn’t have such particular expectations for his wedding ring, he’s happy with the outcome.

‘Our experience [with Queensmith] was always excellent - super friendly and helpful. The shop is beautiful too, definitely one of the nicest ones I saw walking around Hatton Garden jewellers!’

Any Wedding Day Fears?

The pandemic threw a curveball at the couple, and after a year’s delay, they remained hesitant as to if and when their big day would come. Step in 2021’s fuel crisis - one more thing out of Harriet and Carl’s control that had potential to put a stopper to plans. ‘I was so concerned as it was in the middle of the fuel crisis and pandemic! We had a few people unable to come as they had covid, and the guitarist couldn’t make it because of fuel - but it was all totally fine!

Wedding Day Highlights

‘The day was perfect… All our suppliers were incredible. Highlights were seeing Carl when I walked in, the speeches were all incredible, particularly my mum’s was really special. It was just such a fun day.’

‘It was amazing to see everyone together after such a long couple of years. I kept looking around and just being so happy that everyone we loved was there. It made me realise how amazing all the people in our life are, and how lucky we are.’
