Frequently Asked Questions

About Loose Lab Grown Diamonds

What are loose lab grown diamonds?

Loose lab grown diamonds are a type of diamond that have been grown by scientists in a laboratory, instead of within the Earth's mantle. Loose lab diamonds have undergone a growth process, then precise cutting and polishing, to produce a sparkling diamond that is ready to set into an engagement ring or piece of jewellery.

How much does it cost to set a loose lab grown diamond?

We will set any diamond you purchase from Queensmith for no extra charge - you will just pay the cost of your diamond, and the cost of the design you choose, with engagement rings starting at £700.

If you buy your diamond from elsewhere, but choose to have our jewellers create your ring or piece of jewellery, we charge an additional fee starting at £300. This covers handling and insurance while the diamond is in our care.

What are the benefits of buying a loose lab grown diamond?

There are many benefits to buying a lab diamond, including

  • guaranteed ethical origins
  • lower prices, typically between 60% to 80% less than mined diamonds
  • 100% authentic and identical to natural diamonds
  • no requirement for land mining
  • increasingly produced via renewable power, like solar power
